I am debating between the mk4 or the 7D. Dose the 7Ds AI servo/ AF the same as the mk4?

You need a wildlife body?

You would want this:

In all seriousness, the 7D AF cannot compare with the 1D4 or even the 1D3. For that matter, the 7D I tried was not as consistent / sure as the 1D2N that I own. And I've tried the 1D4 for a whole weekend - it puts my 1D2N to shame as far as focus acquisition and servo tracking is concerned.

If all you can afford is the 7D, I'd sell the 40D and get a used 1D Mark III.

Looks like you have no money issue. Yeah, go for the 1dmark4. If money is an issue, markIII.

get a used 1D Mark III

and hope to goodness its not one of the many that had AF issues.

In my short time frame experience with the EOS 7D, its far superior in Auto Focusing than any previous xxD models I've had. The Spot AF works outstanding well for pin point focusing for birding with a long telephoto lens.
