My first "real world" shots with the 70-200 2.8 IS II

Instead of shooting text and stuff, today I took out the 70-2 that I received last night. Since it was so nice out, we packed up the family and went to the New York Aquarium in Coney Island. So I have some animals, and one portrait of my youngest son with crop to show sharpness.

Overall impressions, it's a good lens. Very good. I love how it captures color, and the micro-contrast is very impressive for a zoom.

Anyways, here you go and you can judge for yourself.

All shots with Canon 1D Mark III and 70-200 2.8 IS II handheld

ISO 1600, f/2.8, 150mm, 1/250th (minimal NR applied in Lightroom. Minimal sharpening applied, nothing done with color)

Looks like a keeper for sure!

Thing is, I really liked the first version of this lens. I just downgraded it to the non-IS because I hardly ever found myself using the IS. I thought both were very sharp. Well, they're sharp, but this new version is VERY VERY sharp. And now, the 4 stop IS is very nice to have again. Amazing what a lens of made of fluorite (and some engineering) can do

Thanks for the comments all. I'm pretty happy with my decision Now to get a couple paid gigs to use it on and make the money back.

The turtle was definitely photogenic . Here is another shot that was only at 1/200, so you can see a little blur on his right arm. If you look really hard by his left though, you can see the reflection of a kid absolutely being marveled by these creatures
