Get Karter!!

Went go-karting yesterday for the first time - 2hr endurance! We had 2 teams of 5 in an 11 team race (one came second, the other i can't remember... )
Lighting was pretty cr*ppy - f/2.8 and 1600 ISO, but they don't look too noisy at this size.

just kiddin - I suppose because of the shared helmets it keeps 'hair styling products' and cooties from getting spread!

Nice shots, only criticisms being is that the karts look slightly static, a lower shutter speed would've helped. Also, you may have been restricted, but shooting from a lower perspective would've helped too.

I agree with you there Pete, they do look fairly static! They were mostly 320th-640th. Maybe should have dropped to 250th? (and 800ISO?). We were behind a waist high wall that pretty much scuppered a lower perspective, and we could only stand at one end of the track. A lot of the shots are with the karts coming towards me, so I'm not entirely sure background blur would have happened (?). What kind of settings would you have tried?
I can pan OK with jets, but I found it tough with these, as the only place you could get side-on was close up, so they were tough to catch.

If I was you, I'd have gone for 1/200th and badgered the marshalls to let me shoot from a different position behind a tyrewall! lol

Panning just takes practice, start around 1/300th and work your way down till around 1/160th as you get more comfortable.
