Last night I dropped my 50D camera. It fell on a thick carpet. It's working fine, nothing seems to be wrong, but will this effect the sharpness later on? Or the quality of the images?

The camera has a built in function that punishes its operator by reducing its image quality when abused.

So yes, it will never be the same.

lol! Excuse my ignorance.. but I have just upgraded from a sony point and shoot to this, I'm still a baby photographer :p and I read somewhere that a fall like this might effect the sharpness of your images.

If you damaged the lens, sure its possible. Take some pics and find out.

Dropping gear isn't advisable, but I've done it a few times with lenses, flashes and cameras with no ill effects other than the odd ding.

Best was a Sony p&s that I dropped on to concrete from a height. Big bounce on the lens housing and a huge case-scraping skid but it's still working to this day :D

Yea..it will never be the same. You should probably make your camera wear a crash helmet or something Lu.

How big was the drop Lulula?

If the impact wasn't that great it should be fine. I once had my old A-1 knocked off a tripod and everything landed on snow-covered ground. Apart from a slight dent to the base all was fine. In fact it outlasted my BNIB model. The assistant at the dealer I took it into offered me a word of advice that I should also learn to trust my equipment.

Take a few shots and see what they look like.

All my best

There only one way to find out. Take some pictures and see if something change. It's that simple.

one of my 20D's took a tumble down some concrete steps at a venue i was shooting last year, the only thing that was damaged was the plastic battery grip insert (it lasted a while longer, but i just had to replace that last week as it was giving me all kinds of trouble and i couldn't patch it up anymore)

A crash helmet sounds like a great idea.. especially for someone as clumsy as I am :p

I did take a few shots with it, it's working fine.. nothing changed. I was just a bit worried.
Thanks guys!! Appreciate all the replies!
