Hi
I just started trying out my 7D for video after having it a couple of months. There is a really loud noise on the video when IS is turned on on my lens. Have tried both a 70-200 and a 70-300 lens. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a fault with my camera? The noise goes away when I turn IS off...which kind of sucks.

thanks
Nancie

No, it happens because the mic is on the camera body. You'd need an external mic that's further away from the lens.

Yeah, the built-in mic will pick up noise from both the IS and the auto focus. Basically you need to either use a tripod and manual focus or you need to use an external mic.

It's normal. Mine does it with the 24-105L IS, but not the 85mm or 70-200 f/4 non-IS. The only way to avoid this is to get an external mic, which will most likely give you better audio anyway.

the noise from the IS motor and even the AF motor can get picked up by the 7D when shooting video. I recommend going through the manual again as it specifically says that it is a normal behaviour with the on-body mic. to avoid it is to mount an externam mic as everyone here had suggested.

:) I know what you mean.

I was wondering if it is possible to filter out the IS noise using Audio Editing Software ?
