I shoot only monochrome, and post processing is where I get to do the tonal manipulation, which is an integral part of the final interpretation. It's not a tedious process by any means, as I basically just use curves. Sometimes, I might use paintbrush (50 percent grey) for some selective dodging or burning. After some sharpening, that's it...until the print.

Mar 22, 2010 17:29 | #11 Taking the photo is (usually) more fun cuz I am usually outside wandering around or at the track. The post processing CAN be fun if its not bulk post on event photos. If its fine processing on one image I had a real artistic idea for and the post is the finishing part of that image I had in my head, then that is pretty good fun too. David

RDKirk Adorama says I'm "packed." More info | The first time I ever used a camera, I also developed the film and developed the print. My goal has always been producing a picture, not just operating a camera, so the entire process is a single process for me. Just taking the picture is not "fun" because it's just foreplay. Holding the finished picture in my hands is the climax. TANSTAAFL--The Only Unbreakable Rule in Photography

If I really have what I think is a great image, I can' wait to get home, look at it and start processing it. If I don't care, then I know the shots stink. Gallery: http://tomyi.smugmug.com/
