#1, the first thing I noticed os that the subject's eyes are a little soft, and that should be the point of focus. you also might want to avoid putting the subject in the dead center of the frame.

#2, I like this one. subject is slightly off center which is good, and the shallow DOF helps diminish the busy background, but it probably also made it hard to get the focus on the subjects face. the sharpest point looks like it was the zipper of the jacket... its still a good shot though.

As mentioned, focus on both for me is off....the last crop leaving just a partial head and torso feels weird.
