Shot this with a 580EXII off to each side along with the pop up flash on the 7D. I'm pretty happy with the way it came out, but next time I'm going to play with the balance more between the two sides. The ladies are the Hell Marys from the Texas Rollergirls.

Very engaging picture, a lot going on and that's cool!
3 things that bother me
-the extra space on the left, compared to the right
-the blown out white table, and how there is a straight horizontal white line cutting off hands/objects
-the 3 right girls are lite much brighter than the rest of the girls

They wanted the skates on the left because they are a Roller Derby Team, and they payed for the photo, but I agree with your take on the composition.

I tried several different PPs, and there's another where I made the table cloth Red, but it's an HDR and I did not post it here. I think I'll give the PP on this another try for grins and do a red covering without the HDR.

I 100% agree with you on the light balance between left and right. Next time I will bracket with the flashes. This was actually shot at an outdoor bar at the Jackelope in Austin. The LCD on my 7D did not give enough detail outdoors to see the imbalance. Live and learn until next time.

Just the three on the far right end look a little too hot to me. Love the layout and the PP work on the second post. The back ground looks great with the characters in the photo too!

the first thing i assumed was that is was a roller derby team, without seeing the skates. so in that manner you definitely portrayed them well. the lighting looks nice, but the background is so busy its a little bit distracting. maybe you could have opened up a stop to get a little bit more depth, but overall for first time shooting off camera flash, i would say definitely a good job! keep it up!!!

prefer the first shot over the second the second the reds are glowing you have lips glowing and ears glowing the hat on the skull in the top the emblem is glowing and the beer cans on the top left have red bits glowing it just makes for more of a distraction. To have that many people and get that kind of light is really good for the first time doing ocf.
