Canadians -- What's the Best Travel Insurance?

I live in vancouver and I'm taking a 2 month trip to China, specifically I'll be spending a lot of time in the remote areas -- xinjiang, tibet, western sichuan, etc.

I've got a 5D Mark II, Gitzo 1541T + Markins Q3 with a RRS PCL-1 Panning clamp, 17-40L, 70-200 f/4 L, and maybe a 135L. I also have quite a few 400+ dollar filters (Vari-N-Duo, LB COlor Combo, Gold N Blue, Reverse Grad, etc).

I'm basically carrying around like 6-7k on my back. What are the CANADIAN travel insurance options that may cover some of this? I don't have any home insurance so this stuff would have to be covered under a regular travel insurance plan.

If any fellow canadians have some recommended national travel insurance plans that will actually cover some of this gear are not TOO expensive, I'm all ears.

Note: Posted this in another sub forum, but It was probably in the wrong section.

Do you have house insurance? Chances are good that it's covered by that. You might want to call them first.

Unfortunately, I don't have house insurance.

Do you rent? You could add a rider onto renters insurance.

If not you can check out http://www.statefarm.ca/ (external link). Heard good things about them.

Might check out Wawanesa.

Mine is a rider on my house that includes cameras, computers, gps etc.

But you can get it thru them without the house.

You might also check into BCAA and TD Waterhouse. They have both been advertising lots.

I use western financial group for my renters and camera insurance. I've never made a claim though so I can't comment on the service.

Well, I've made claims with Wawanesa twice - once for computers/laptop after house fire and once for cameras/lenses when they were stolen from my truck. They are awesome. Had all my stuff replaced and paperwork complete within 2 weeks.

That's cool, hopefully my insurance company is the same *crosses fingers* lol.

People are usually trying to avoid travel insurance but, since it has become mandatory for several overseas destination like Cuba for example, more and more tourists will finally look for the best offer.

I don't think the OP was talking about "Travel insurance" - in the same context as you are.
It was about "insurance for my photo equipment while I'm travelling".
