Please help me make up my mind. Please do not suggest anything else as these are the only two lenses I have my eyes on. I have seen the comparison, but I would like to get user input.

Hi there. What setup do you currently have and is this for low light flash-less use to be used wide open? That might make all the difference.

after looking at both picture archive and loving them both. i just ended up getting the 28mm f1.8 i anticipate one day of going FF so having it work on the FF body helps. Besides that they look pretty similar to me from all the sample pics. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

the 30mm is one of the most highly regarded primes for crop cameras. i had one when my 40d was my main body and I loved it.

if you ever go FF it will sell very quickly on the for sale forum.

Honestly, I'd flip a coin or see which one comes up at the best price. They are very close.

Sigma is sharper faster than f2 and of course is just faster overall
Canon is FF compatible and has a shorter MFD. One might say the Canon focuses a tiny bit better and is less prone to focusing problems, but my Sigma has been perfect.

I would suggest Canon 28/1.8. It is mainly because I have had AF issue with sigma. i think if you can find a good Sigma 30, it will be good too. But think about it, FL is very close, IQ is close enough, the main difference is the 2/3 stop of light vs FF compatibility. You pick!!

+1 for the 30! The only lens I could ever see replacing mine with would be the 35L. Mine is super sharp, has great colors, and creamy bokeh. AFAIK the only issue is front/back focus on some copies, although it doesn't seem as prevalent as with its 50mm bigger brother. This is something usually fixed with a free trip to Sigma.

^If I have focus issues what is the process? Do I have to send my camera with it?

Agreed on the 30. Picked one up a week ago and love. No focusing issues with mine and only slight adjustment using MA on my 50. I looked at the 28 also but wanted the larger ap. Either one will be fine.

If you buy new, most retailers (Amazon, BH, etc.) will let you exchange it. If the lens is still in warranty you may want to just send it in to Sigma, I'm not sure of the details (mine didn't need any adjustment) but usually you pay to ship it there and everything else is covered. Sometimes Sigma will request that you send the body along with it, but that's up to you. If you did have issues you could contact Sigma's customer service to find out what your options are.

Have you checked out the sample images thread? There are tons of pictures showing what the lens is capable of as well as conversation on getting it calibrated when necessary:

Sigma 30mm. I just wish it would truly work on FF. Yeah, I know I can get the Sigma 50 1.4 but I want a true 30mm. The 35 f2 and the 28 1.8 didn't impress me so the 35L is calling but the price is a bit steep for me.
