I have this lens. I love everything about it except that when I take
a picture of people during travelling, the picture comes out a bit soft.
It's almost like the object is part of the background.

However, sometimes I take the shot and it's fine.. I usually have to stop
it down to 6.3 or something. Does anyone else have this problem with
this Tokina or any other UWA?? Is this lens just not supposed to take
pictures of people?

This is my second copy btw.

Thanks for any responses.

I have no problem, but with an UWA, you do not really get subject seperation due to the large DOF. So everything is basically equal, visually.

I do not find it the best for people shooting, but I do use it sometimes.

I am also on my second copy of this lens.
It is a fantastic lens but you do have to watch the focus, even at the 24mm end it is not as good at focussing as my canon 24-85 zoom at similar apertures. In good light I don't have any problems at all but in dim lighting then it does have the occasional mis-focus.
Of course at the 12mm end then like all UWA lenses you do need to make sure that you have something with reasonably high contrast at the focus point, also best if you only use a single focus point activated on your camera.

hmm.. I thought the single focusing point could be better too.

Thanks for the responses!
