I just ordered my SIGMA 70-200mm 70-200 2.8 and would like to protect it from the dust from the baseball games and soccer games.
But I also want one that will help a bit with UV if needed and is prefferably EASY TO CLEAN.
I have some cash in my Pay-Pal account so I figured I should go to ebay and buy some protection...hmm sounds a bit err..n/m:o

I find B+W multicoated lenses are easier to clean than hoya, and don't get so dirty to start with for some reason.

$24 for that Hoya 77mm filter seems very cheap, make sure you get a multicoated filter or it'll reduce the quality of your photos.

I use the Hoya HMC Super uv filter, wasn't 24 bucks though. Optical quality is good.

Hoya or B+W, my preference B+W

B+W multicoated is the best. But it is kind of expensive.

Saw a thread on here with somne test pics that showed it didn;t make much difference to the image quality which filter you use. Personally I would use Hoya standard filters - mainly as protection.

All you need to clean dust off a lens is a squeeze-bulb blower. No need to sink money into a filter for "protection". I would strongly suggest, however, that you use the lens hood all the time. That will give you all the protection you need and save your $$$ for other more important purchases.

Skip D,

You are right - up until the point where something scratches the front element or you ding the lens on something (both of which have happened to me - a new filter much cheaper than a repair/new lens!).

You might say that I would be better off looking after my lenses properly - you would be right! But accidents do happen!! ;)
