This is good to hear, I do hope the new one is more reliable than the current one. And also that the price doesn't increase too much.

I hope it gets a similar USM motor as the 85mm f1.8.
Canon's lack of a good affordable 50mm lens has kept me from buying.

Circular aperture blades would be welcomed!

Odd that nobody has commented on this.

Looks pretty cool...too bad about the price, though that is to be expected.

About time but I wonder if the changes will be enough to dissuade me from the Sigmalux.

I doubt it'd be much more than the Sigma. Hopefully just below $600...w/ no hood included.

I will definitely be upgrading. I hope the build quality is closer to my 28mm.

This would be a welcome addition to the lineup!

I hope it's good. The current version isn't up to snuff. The OOC images from this lens and 1Ds MK III made me sell it.

I really really hope this rumor comes to fruition soon. I would love some fast glass but the micromotor USM, crummy build and wide-aperture softness keep me far clear of the current 50/1.4. I'd gladly pay up to $450 for an updated version.

Didn't it already have USM before?
