Sorry to start another 7D vs 1diii thread. Most of the threads were or oriented for birding/bif photographies.

I just recently sold my 40D and accessories.
i shoot mainly indoor concert and formal events. I looked at the 7d and 1diii mostly because of it's speed and low light capabilities.

Both cameras looked pretty advanced compared to the 40D

Currently I only have my 17-55 2.8IS and a flash left (sold everything else).

I plan on picking up the 70-200 2.8IS to replace my old Sigma. Once I get the body straightened out.

the body will mainly have a 17-55 (or 24-70) and 70-200 2.8IS on it most of the time.

HDMovies is not a must. However the wireless flash built-in looks tempting. I probably won't be using the machine-gun bursts as much as someone that does birding frequently. The Larger sensor on the 1D does look a bit better on my monitor, maybe it's just my monitor!

Is the 1Diii worth a shot? I see they are going from sub $2000 right now. The price difference is not huge for a camera that is still worth 3k+ new!

Wow just found a mkiii on ebay for 1999+10dollar shipping.. minus 160 (8% BCB) it would be had for ~1860 bucks. Just when I go to hit "buy it now" ... it refreshed saying the item has been sold!!! TOO FAST!!

I'd personally go 1dIII for the af ability in low light during concerts and the crappy light @ formal events.

Wow Gabe, if you say get the mkiii, then I have to get it lol. I've seen alot of your posts in the 7d vs 1dIII battles threads and you usually the one putting up a good fight for the 7d!

I see most people buy the 1dIII for its fast fps and possibly slightly better IQ. If I see myself using the fast FPS or the 7fps on the 7D is enough, is it still worth buying? Just trying to play both sides

The 7d af is going to get smoked by the 1dIII in low light.

I'm pretty sure as long as you don't do video the 1DIII is going to smoke the 7D all around.

If you do indoor photography as you say then the smaller crop of MkIII may be more useful giving you more room to work. If you are always at a distance at the concerts then the 7D crop may be more useful. The focus and build of the MkIII will easily beat the 7D.

If you are one of the people that needs to do heavy cropping for most of your work, or must have video, the 7D is an option worth looking at. Otherwise, the 1Dmk3 would be my choice without hesitation.

:D hehe, the 1dIII makes sense in your situation.
For my shooting the 7D is probably better.

I'm considering the MkII too, but I like the crop factor of the 7D
