From what I see, as a ghost town Jerome does not offer one-tenth the photo ops Bodie does. Website

My husband and I are very fond of it but we have visited it with others who could not wait to leave. It is truly an artist's community and as such just doesn't appeal to everyone. It really does require a certain mindset. That said, I'm a little surprised to see it on anyone's top ten list much less number one for photography. And I say that because I would be hard pressed to name a image I have from there that I don't instantly know is from there. The same would not necessarily be true of NYC or Seattle......

But, its all subjective. 6D, G9, Sigma 50 1.4, Sigma 15mm Fisheye, Sigma 50 2.8 macro, Nikon 14-24G 2.8, Canon 16-35 2.8 II, Canon 24-105 f/4 IS, Canon 70-200 2.8 IS, tripod, lights, other stuff.

It's quaint and quirky but as PBeeee says, you either get it or you don't. I tend to run hot and cold on Jerome. After a while, I need to go shoot there but once I'm there it's sometimes "Tell me again why I felt I had to come up here...?" Jay

Yeah, I wouldn't put Jerome in my Top 10 list since my photography is basically 99.9% landscape...not much of a lifestyle-type shooter. That being said, there is, for lack of a better word, a fairly eclectic "junkyard" up the hill that offers a multitude of shooting opportunities. Entry fee is only a few bucks, but worth spending a few hours there IMO (the image on the left had a posterization effect applied in post, along with some other goodies).

After a while, I need to go shoot there but once I'm there it's sometimes "Tell me again why I felt I had to come up here...?" The surrounding hills would be fascinating to explore though. Nearly in all quadrants you can see little piles of mine tailings. So many stories to be told! Not sure the author has their geography quite right though. The sun generally sets behind the mountain on which Jerome is built (Mummy Mountain?) so Jerome goes into shadow pretty early. Sunrises from across the valley toward Sedona are quite nice however. That is so true - having seen some of them, I was in awe everytime! Having a camera makes you no more a photographer than having a hammer and some nails makes you a carpenter - Claude Adams
