I'm looking for a small camera bag, probably carry my 55-250 and 50 1.8, plus body nothing more, if it had a little more room for one more lens that would be fine. More importantly it needs to look somewhat business professional. I am a TA at my university, and appearance is very important. Before being given the position I was informed of a strict dress code. There was a rather strict dress code for me a student, but now with the TA position I basically wear business casual dress. I had to ditch the backpack for a briefcase, and I would really like to bring my camera to work, even carry it from class to class, but just can't (even If I could don't want to) carry something some hideous. I need a more professional bag.

I've seen some in the $200 range that would work, but they are bigger then I need. Any thoughts on something smaller and more importantly cheaper?

Nova bags are very inexpensive and functional.

How about you get a briefcase bag that you like and is wide enough to accommodate your cameras, then get some padded dividers inside?

Stealth Reporter D100AW?

If you need to look business-worthy, there's probably nothing better than Think Tank Photo. Check 'em out - expensive but well worth it. I have one of their roller bags, their belt system, and now a tripod bag. Used to have a backpack from them too, but sold it for the roller. These things LAST.

Attractive bag - has that retro '60's look to it. It's similar to one of my dad's old movie camera bags ;).

Suzie's suggestion is quite good and I've done that on occasion. With the right briefcase and padded inserts, foam or other kinds of dividers you can often customize something that will inexpensively do the job.

This might actually be a workable idea, I have a few briefcases, one that might be wide enough. Do you know where to get dividers? edit: nevermind a quick google search I found some.

Also - check around your house... you have any old camera bags you can canibalize? Any recent shipping boxes that had corrugated or "egg-crate" foam?

Actually - I just had another thought: WalMart and a number of other places sell a wide variety large, small, narrow, etc. insulated/PADDED lunch bages. These have a modest mount of foam, some zippers and side pockets and can often fit inside a briefcase.

i'm sure this is true, maybe you didn't read to OP, but I specifically stated I had to get rid of my backpack, and therefore am not looking to get one.

This one actually looks somewhat like a faux retro camera bag, and measures 7.5 x 8 x 4 and is only $13.95 plus shipping:

I'm guessing it has as much "packing" as one of the Lowepro or Tamrac holster bags, and at a width of 4" it should fit in an expandable briefcase.
