Hi,
I just joined this forum - looks very interesting. I am getting started with bird photography and look forward to learning a lot.
Perhaps someone can help me with the ID of this heron. Photo was taken a week ago in the Everglades. I initially thought Little Blue Heron, but the white puzzled me.
Thanks.

Wow, how big was this? It looks like a cross between a black-crowned night heron (the eyes and body in particular) and a little blue heron. Strangest mix of feathers! The little blues start of life being white and gradually turn blue but this does not look like that, IMO.

I would say Tri-color. Transition between winter and breeding? Nice shot!

D'oh, of course. I forgot about the tricolored heron, never having seen one! Great shot anyway :D

Thanks all for the responses! I think you must be right. The all blue/gray bill fooled me, as I was looking for some yellowish coloring on the Tricolored's bill.

Definitely tri-color, and a nice shot.

Tricolor. Their plummage is beautiful this time of year in Florida.
