shooting with 10stop nd filter

Hello all. I just purchased a 3.0 nd filter by b+w. I did all research and everything. I printed out all the metering and exposure graphs and none of them are adding up when I go to use it. What is the best mode to shoot in while using this filter. I have used the techniques posted here to the T and cannot figure it out. Seems like Bulb mode is the best way to go, but I don't know. I would like to know how it works for the charts as well. Thanks!

You only need to be in 'bulb' mode when your "filtered" (filter in place on lens) is longer than 30 seconds. Best to set the camera dial to "Manual" also.
