I've tried getting help over on Dgrin for Smugmug but getting nowhere, so I'm posting here.

When my page is viewed with Explorer, it's all good. Looks great. When my page is viewed with Firefox the text is double or even triple spaced and looks horrible! I've used multiple different text to html generators to fix this and am getting nowhere. I've even tired Mozilla's SeaMonkey to generate the HTML, and SeaMonkey double and triple spaces the text! Grrrrr. I'd be more than willing to correct it with CSS, but like I said, I'm getting no where over on Dgrin and am just running in circles with my Google searches. It seems to be a known fact that Firefox does this yet there are no fixes for it?

Anyone have a clue why Firefox cannot read text? or how to fix it?

Is there an html generator that Firefox CAN read correctly?

I am stumped.

You have this,

<small>It was another chilly day in Kenosha but with spring comes
more <br>
bike racing and we had lots of great action today!<br>
<br>
The highlight of today's action was Velo Trocadero's total control of
the <br>
Pro 1/2 race. Today's race was visibly quicker than lastweek's with
much more aggression and lots of counter moves. None of the early
breaks were able to get much distance until Velo Trocadero sent
Tim Pacholski off by himself and used their three other riders to
control the reaction.</small>

Remove the

<br>

from in between. That is adding an additional line.

Thanks for the reply.

Here's the current code:

Hows that. Good enough?

Not.

This is not a Firefox issue, this is a demonstration of the hopelessly poor quality of html generated by automatic tools. Your time would be far better spent learning a bit of html and fixing or rewriting it directly, rather than hunting for a "tool" that will work with Firefox.

Your code is junk. Hell you have Head, Title, and Meta tags in the body. You need to strip all the ****e out of it and then see how it performs, it's no wonder that looks messy.

Okay, my fault, I should have explained all this ahead of time ... been there, done that!

I've just stripped out the Meta tags and all that. Starts and ends in <html> ... </html>.

Looks the same.

Understand, I'm trying to sell photos, I spend my time taking photos, uploading photos. I don't have time to hand code html every day when I need to change this page. Everything was fine last season, but now we're xxx generations beyond that old Firefox and the world has changed and my site looks horrible!

Suggestions on how I can get Firefox compliant html without writing the whole darn thing out by hand?

OR how this can be fixed with CSS? I'm going in circles over at Dgrin too.

Your comments are appreciated, I'm just 3 days into frustration over this.

Well show us a link of what you do have and have done to correct it.

Does smugmug not offer you a way to update it like a blog? If not then a wordpress blog for updates would make your life easier as you'd skin it once and then just post updates.

Here's the discussion over there: http://dgrin.com …php?p=1356016#post1356016 (external link)

I have Googled this and Googled this and there seems to be a running problem with Firefox displaying text with double spacing, yet there is no one way of fixing it, nor can I find a solution to my problem.

To me, this seems like a simple task - post text with photos. Yet it's an impossible task in the Firefox world.

You still haven't stripped the crap out of it you have needless <font><big><small>etc tags in there that are screwing it up. You also left in the body tags which probably weren't helping.

Here's what it looks like with all the crap ripped out (and possibly a few too many <br>s) http://www.thesoundlab.co.uk/misc/www.peloton-pix.com.htm (external link) It's clearly not a Firefox issue it's definitely the code. It does the same thing in Konqueror and probably will in Chrome and Safari too. Scruffy code will almost always cause issues.

I believe I mentioned this, but I will not have time to hand code this page day after day when I'm on the road shooting.

What if I started with different parameters when starting up the html?

That wouldn't make a difference. The automatically generated code you are pasting in is pure crap and is what is causing the issue. All I did was strip all the rubbish tags out of it. If you get a blog all you have to do is type in the text and it does all the conversion work for you, dead easy. You could probably integrate a blog into smugmug, I'm assuming some of the other users must do, but even if you can't you can have a simple part at the top of the page with a link to your blog for people to go there to keep updated on what you are up to.

No offence, but this is kind of the case in point of why when you don't know what you are doing it can pay to hire a pro.

Ha Ha.

Well, I was able to do this all last summer and it came out fine. Since then browsers as well as the Smugmug system have gone through multiple generations of 'improvements' and now it looks horrible. The methods I used last year are no longer working.

Thanks for the help, I've still got some hair left on my head, I'll just continue to pull the rest out.

Sorry, I don't know what to say except try to start with a blank slate as the code is very bad right now.

Well, I'm trying Mozilla's 'Kompozer' and I think I can work with it. It doesn't look as nice as Coffee Cup, but at least I'm getting more than four lines of text per screen. I've got some "test" text up on the homepage now.

It's been a few months but I remember this problem.

I believe that I removed the br from the <br />
Like this <br> </>

Below is your code with the br removed from the trailing slash. Copy it to your site and see if that fix's it. Can't make any promises but I think this might be the problem.

A second Trocadero rider was sent off in pursuit for a 1-2 finish, but he wasn't able to make contact with Pacholski and was eventually reeled back in.</>
