yeah, I looked aqt that one in person and compared it to the canon one and decided to go with the canon model. yeah it's more but It'll hold it's value better and if it screws up and breaks I know exactly where I can send it for repair under warranty a lot easier... I'm also a little quirky about 3rd party products... especially after my sigma experiences...

I've got the ebay one (from the US though), and it works just fine. Came with 2 lpe8 batteries (obviously not canon). I'm too cheap to spring for the canon one :P

Not enough wide for a crop sensor. But using it with a 10-22 together would be great ;)
Than add a 100-400 L and you're set!

I did untill just recently switched to primes. A fine lens I shall say! It's got its limitations but if you can work your way around them you should be ok. I never really shot below 24mm often so it was plenty wide for me.

I do... as expected it's fairly long at the wide end on a crop body but otherwise works great and is impressively sharp especially after I had mine calibrated to my particular body (for free under warranty) and it has become my default lens. Btw it feels much more at home and balanced on a gripped 550D.

This was shot with this combination of camera/lens at f/7.1

http://plawa.cyber.cz/img/martina_b.jpg (external link) (warning, full res)

The only bad thing I can say about it is that after I used it to shoot speedway it sucked in some dust even though i was extra careful about it and now the manual focus ring has a VERY annoying feel to it - I took to it a Canon dealer for cleaning only to be told that it would set me back ~120$.. I argued with them that as an L lens it should be dustproof so now I'm waiting for Canon CZ to provide a statement on that. And since their own website says it's a dustproof lens they will talk to a very unhappy customer if they reject to cover the cleaning under warranty...

Did you send the lens with you body to calibrate?
Sounds like I should do that as soon as I buy the lens for best IQ? lol

Yes I did.. I figured that if I paid that much money for a lens I want to get the best out of it and since the calibration was gratis there was no reason not to do it.

I've been using this for a few months now and love it! I have had no issues what's so ever. + the coloring is a perfect match to the camera which was a concern prior to ordering. I would do it again and I have recomended it.

I just bought the Canon Kiss X4 (Japanese version of the 550D) - haven't taken any outstanding shots yet, but am getting there. Its been about 4 years since I last owned an SLR.

I'm looking for harsh criticism of my photos - tell me how to improve, I will be grateful.
