I am actually lucky to have been able to take these pictures. The night before, in Sequoia National Park, I left some food in my backpack on the table. I also had my T2i sitting unprotected in my padless backpack. So I go to sleep not thinking about any of that of course, and when I wake up, what do you know? A bear is ripping through my backpack eating all my food! Well I was quite fine with that (even though it's a $100 pack) until I realize, my brand new camera was sitting in that bag! Well I tried screaming at it from my sleeping bag, to no avail. Eventually it left and I was already dreading seeing my camera in pieces, until I actually opened my pack to my t2i sitting there unscratched and unharmed. It works perfectly, and I couldn't have been more relieved. I now say that this camera is "bear proof" because it really is! :D There's my story to go with those pictures!

What lens did you use? I just acquired a tamron 90mm 2.8 macro, but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

light setting?
did you use macro light? the color/ contrast is fantastic since there is enough light.

edit----the light source is from above, the shadow of the fly gives me the hint.

wonderful shots, are these pictures from the 70-300mm DO lens? I think the contrast is a little bit low, or natural light condition was not optimal when you took those pictures.

Yes, the 70-300 DO. It must be me. I adjusted the images slightly to my taste, bringing down the white on the lizard's neck, for instance. And in the full resolution, the detail in the butterfly wing is so great. The DO does take a bit of care in shooting. I'm thoroughly wringing out the T2i and my 10-22mm, 17-55mm and the 70-300 DO prior to a trip to India next year. I want to make sure I have a good understanding of how each lens works with the camera for best results.

This one is from the same 70-300DO and other than cropping is unadjusted, no contrast changes or USM:

Hey guys! Some inspirational pics in here. Got my 550D last week, Decided on this model for the HD video feature. I initially wanted to digitalise my memories of my 8 month old boy, as i am getting old and forgetful.
However i found this place, while trying to research how to operate the camera. And ever since then i have been smitten with photography and seem to have found myself a new love ( hobby ).
All previous camera's have been point and shoot, and even though it's been guess work so far, all pics have been in M-mode.
All critique welcome. give it to me were it hurts. ;)

This one was just a quick snap of my son. It came out really clear, and shows off his blossoming character.

Try Av/Tv mode and play around with that. Select a ISO (let's say 100 if your outside).
Than select apperture (in Av mode). Take a picture at let's say 3.5 Take the same picture at F11. Notice any difference in shutter speed?

Now go in Tv mode. Select a shutter speed (1/2000 thinkng you are still outside). What apperture does it chosse for you? Now try 1/50. What happens?

Play around, take your time to learn right.

Read here, you will learn a lot. And spend a lot too.

Wolfy, something a bit strange happened to me. I've been lusting after the Tamron 90, reading reviews and all that, and yesterday just lucked into a chunk of cash that would let me buy it. But then yesterday I also got these shots with my 70-200. Since I'm not really a macro guy, and probably would use the 90 more for portraits, now I'm kind of like, "is this the lens I should get?" The Tamron 90 does look awesome, however. I'm really torn:confused::confused:

Man, how close did you have to get toget those shots! They are real nice! I chose the tampon 90 as a portrait/macro compromise. I may have to snag a 70-200. Sure is a lot sharper than my 55-250. At least it seems to be.
