Sunset shot with the 70-200 mm f/4 lens. (1/100 sec, f/14, ISO 800 at 200mm on a tripod). This is not an HDR.

Really gorgeous. It's not logical--we can see the sun is too low for the water to be illuminated like that--but who cares? It looks great!

yeap... that's what I payed for mine... Al is to blame! :)

Ha! Check the record--I encouraged you after you bought it (but before you received it). You sounded like you were having regrets, and I just assured you that you had made the right choice:) (And I was right!:D)

Got my 550D yesterday, so far im happy with it. Got it to replace my broken 400D and it seems alot better camera. It will get a proper good work out this weekend on Wales Rally GB but here is a photo from me playing with it this morning. No PP at all, this is from the camera with the 18-55 IS kit lens...............

I went shooting today and found a kind of monkey colony up in the mountains.

Mook, I blame you directly for my desire to have the 70-200mm f4L. :D

Great monkey photos. I love the one of the mother and child. It's very touching. The last one is on the money!

My camera just came today and so far I have only used it in Auto mode. Still figuring out all of the controls on the camera. Even in auto I am very pleased with the pics. I cant wait to get out and takes some really good pics but I just had to post my first couple of pics :) Here are a couple of shots of my favorite subjects :) I posted the first one because I thought it was cool that I caught the nictitating membrane or third eyelid on my parrot. It is the milky white part covering the lower portion of his eye :)

Wow! How did you get that bird to change colors like that?

Just jokes. LOL!

Nice shots.

Mook, #2 is an amazing shot. If It were mine I'd crop it portrait with just the mom and child. Really, really well done!

Must have been a pretty cool experience!

Naturally all 3 were taken with the 70-200:lol:
Actually, you have the 85mm 1.8, which is the lens I dream of....

Ha! I do indeed love the 85 1.8

It's a very capable lens for the price. I can't help but want that F4L though. It's just super crisp.

Actually, it got a bit weird! I was sitting on my motorbike taking pictures, and the mother and baby came up to me and the baby actually started crawling on my muffler and the mother was holding my blue jeans and looking up at me (for handouts, I guess). I was scared to death the baby would get burned. I tried to warn it off, but the mother didn't like that, and they have teeth you wouldn't believe--I'm talking huge fangs like a wolf. I was on a slope too, and the bike started slipping back...fortunately they skedaddled at that point and I was able to make a clean getaway.

Mookalafalas, Excellent pictures! The Mom and Baby picture is portfolio material for sure.

Also I've had the opportunity to work with Macaques very closely and those teeth can take a human finger off with little effort so I'm glad that situation didn't turn out any weirder.

I've had the camera for just two weeks now, but I can't put it down.

Al, I agree with the others, the Mother and Child shot is the most beautiful I've seen on this thread hands down! Fantastic capture... but where do you live? Jurassic Park? I just saw your 'panning shot' with your daughter... that 'dinosaur' is just incredible! You find some fantastic subject / locations... really impressive!

Thanks,
Rafa.
