I'm done giving my suggestions. Sounds like you are already replacing the camera, so hopefully that works.

Rivest - am I right in thinking that you first had a 7D, then the T2i, and now a 60D? Why did you change from the 7D to the T2i?

Got my 70-200 F4L today, but it was dark by the time I got home. Hopefully I'll get to play with it tomorrow.:)

I'm jealous. I can't wait until I can afford... I mean, my wife lets me get a decent lens.

Peter, you are wrong :P

I had a T2i since march. I've sent it to Canon in september, the grip was peeling off. In the mean time, I ''bought'' a 7D from Best Buy. Used it 13 days, returned it on the 14. I received my T2i back 2 or 3 days after I returned the 7D. I used it up to 2 days ago, when I sold it. I than bought a 60D which I will keep probably until I go FF. I'll wait for the 5dMkIII, than buy a MkII (the price will go down a bit).

All three (T2i, 60D and 7D) are great cameras. They all share the same picture quality (AA filter may or may not make a difference).

Wolfy, can't wait to see some results ;)

Is there a difference in the AA filter's between the t2i, 60d and 7d?

I have only seen 1 post saying the 60d images are softer than the t2i's, but I haven't dug much deeper than that.

^^Hardcore, if you have read that post in the 60D user unite, it's probably user's fault. Missed focus, wrong exposure, slow shutter speed, are all things that will deliver less sharp pictures. I've skimmed the hole thread and that is what I came to. The 60D and T2i get the exact same picture quality.

Nobody ''should get'' the 60D because it has better picture quality, it's false. It will only help you a bit more in getting better pictures, but if you know your tool, you'll get the same results.

About the AA, ask Rafa, he's the king when you have specific technical questions ;)

LOL! No, this is really not true! but I am a sucker for reading technical news (and even webmaster of a 'computer tech' type of forum).

Regarding AA, I have really no idea... what I did hear a Canon representative say on an interview (for which sadly I have no link or remember where!), they said that 7D and T2i don't share the same sensor, the 7D has certain differences but they share the technology. T2i and 60D actually DO SHARE the sensor (he said that!) but the 60D inherits a Low Pass Filter from the 7D which the T2i does not have.

Now, whether any of those minor differences form one type of sensor to the other or the low pass filters make any difference in IQ, most say that all three cameras are virtually indistinguishable from one another... differences are to be found elsewhere, which earns, IMHO, a big thumbs up to canon for not crippling the lower end Rebel to favor the bigger guns on that front.

That's the 'intel' I've got on the subject! :) But, you Rivest are the one that has played with all three, so this limited technical knowledge is nothing without a hands-on take on the subject! ;)

Rafa.

Hey!!! Congratulations Wolfy!!! those are great news! Did you finally go with a new one or a used one? How old is it if used? Hope you had a great deal out of it... if you don't mind me asking, how much was it? I believe price vs. performance and quality... the 70-200 f4 is really, really hard to beat!, specially when used.

I really have 0 regrets about buying the lens (as Al foretold) and its now fully payed, so I am really happy not to have a long term debt from it.

But, this part: "...I'll get to play with it tomorrow" is really disturbing! Turn on your lights, take out a tripod and try it tonight!!!! :D;)

Congrats again, eagerly awaiting pictures,
Rafa.

Well, I finally have a bit of downtime tonight so I'm processing some of the past week's images I haven't gotten around to. I was experimenting with the kids in a very low light situation and looking to capture some movement by not using a flash while still relying on ambient light. Man, that's harder than I thought! Had a lot of wasted shots, but this one didn't turn out too bad although I wish my daughter's dress at the bottom would have been nice and crisp.

In other news, the camera is out back approaching the 2 hour mark of taking shots of the night sky, so that's good news for the battery so far. Looking forward to see how long it can go and excited to start processing the data!

Marubozo, did you have any chance to test with the options I talked about earlier?

I don't have any ND filters, so no. But I do love the idea and will have to try it once I get some. For now I'm usually taking two final photos after the star session is complete. One to properly expose the foreground (even if it blows out the sky) and one that underexposes the foreground so it's completely black. That way I can just pull one of those up with the final product in Photoshop and apply a mask or something and get the foreground I want in the final image.

I haven't really had time to play with that though, so everything posted so far are just the raw images from the camera.

This can sound disturbing from a non-photographer view point ;)
