Why delete? HDD are so cheap now. I have 2.5tb in my computer and a drobo that I back up to that I'm going to expand with a further 2tb drive sometime in January.

I'm looking for harsh criticism of my photos - tell me how to improve, I will be grateful.

I only have my pictures on an external. I transfer all my stuff there directly off the card. I'm really weird about deleting my RAWs. I'm kind of a digital hoarder, I guess you could say. I feel like I may need them for some reason in the future, even though that's never been the case thus far.

I had a tough time with this, but I've been able to start deleting the RAWs. I keep some of them long-term, but in general I tune them, convert to JPEG, let the RAWs fester for a while on the drive, then blow them away, knowing I'll never need them again. I just don't want to have too much junk to have any hope of sifting through it down the road.

I keep everything. Well, let me rephrase that. I keep everything that is worth keeping since there are obviously some shots that have no merit whatsoever. In fact, I have duplicates of everything. All raws, all JPGs from the camera, and all edits. There's an active library that exists on my main computer and then a backup of all of that on an external drive.

I'm a bit of a digital packrat myself, but IMO there's no reason not to be since data is so incredibly cheap. You can pick up a 1 TB drive for little more than 50 bucks these days. Granted, I think you still need to be somewhat selective and not keep every single image regardless, but you can store thousands of even raw files very cheaply.

Hi all!

New T2i owner and new to photography. This forum is unreal! There is some awesome talent here! I can't wait to get more clicks under my belt and learn from you all.

Attached is a pic of my cat after sampling my new Canon. I need to get a few accessories, so I'm off to look around for a good photo shop to purchase items from.

:)

Looks like we here in the forum got lots of new friends for Christmas! Welcome all, and thanks for sharing your "early" shots. Looks like you know what you are doing.
On the harddrive/backup issue, I'm with Marubozo. I bought a 2 TB backup drive for 100 bucks recently, and so have one copy on my harddrive and one backed up. I have had harddrives crash, and about 6 weeks ago I had a computer stolen. Once all your stuff is GONE you'll be kicking the crap out of yourself going "why didn't I back up?? so much lost, and so cheap to keep copies--Booo Hoooo Hooo, etc."
Telefragger, just starting to work with RAW files? Wow! You're in for a treat--and an angry wife. You can end up burning a lot of hours reworking photos. You're likely to find a lot of "diamonds in the megapixels."

No backup plan is complete without some off-site element, of course. It's all very well having external hard drives but if someone breaks into your house, they'll probably grab the along with the computer. And if you have a fire then they're all lost.

As well as having most of my decent images on Flickr, I also sync my aperture library to my iDisk and I have an external drive that I leave at work with everything backed up on it. So i'm pretty well covered. If only my photos were as good as my backup plan...

I just got back from five wonderful days at Disney World.

This is the Italian Expo at Epcot. Wife and kids, worn out (but my wife knows what to do: Hot German wine).

Morocco at Epcot (the best, by far, of the exhibits....amazing).

Here's something you rarely see. ;)

Mike I really like the second one - makes me want to go there. Also like the old Asian guy with the camera - is it attached to a monopod?

and the National assembly which due to being overcast and snow everywhere made it really hard to brighten the image without blowing the whites out - any advice on this appreciated
