Left work for a few minutes today to try to take some pics of the trains nearby, but it was too cold to venture out for too long..the sky was pretty nice..

QUOTED IMAGE

I like this one a lot. Really strong lines and engaging composition, IMO.

Hello all, my first jump into the DSLR world is with a T2i and I am loving every minute of it! There is so much to learn and it is more fascinating than I ever imagined it would be. A word of warning, as a new DSLR owner I didn't have the faintest idea how vulnerable the sensor is when swapping lenses. I have only had my camera for about a month and I have been very careful with it thus far. Tonight I checked the dust on my sensor out of curiosity and sure enough, my sensor is pretty dirty! Now keep in mind that this dust doesn't show up as bad at the normal apertures that I usually shoot at (around f/9), but at f/25 it's pretty ugly. I went through the dust delete data process using DPP tonight and it seems to help a little bit by taking the really dark dust particles out, but it still leaves some. So, in the future when I swap lenses I won't do it with my camera face up anymore...Canon recommends swapping lenses with the camera face down to keep dust particles from falling into the camera. I'm looking forward to learning more!

Spend the $10 or whatever it is for a Rocket Blower. I haven't found dust on my sensor that that thing couldn't blow off. Best accessory money spent IMO.

Rafa, I'm going to keep you in mind. I may have some web design work I need done later this year. ;)

I'll look forward to it! Its one of those jobs one can do at a distance! :) Thanks for the interest and trust!

Rafa, why don't you build yourself a nice website to host your best work in there?

If you were the spy type, you would have noticed that my pictures of late are not linked to Photobucket anymore, but to www.rafaelpolit.com (external link) :) ;) I have three more projects queued in my schedule and then I'll make it... I have it partly thought of and already more or less advanced in the graphic design. Its very simple, nothing ostentatious, but it'll do. Thanks for the interest, I'll let you know when it is done.

Rafa.

Thanks for the all the tips on calibration. It appears that I'll have to have 2 edits of photos. One for web viewing, and one for printing , but that's ok with me. I'll just web edit most pics for posting, and re-edit when it's printing time.

This was one of the first shots I took, the day my new camera arrived.

Question.... How do you post from Flickr and get the exif info to show up here? I've had a Flickr account for a long time, but basically never used it, so this post is the experiment (which failed miserably. LOL)

:) Anne

Annie! Fantastic shoots of the spider... we have some of those here, although considerably darker (brownish) than yours. They are also jumpers... they can move incredibly fast if they are hopping around. And I know how tiny they are, so kudos for the results!!

The white balance is a tad warm and I believe after changing the WB you'll have a tad under-contrasted image, so you will probably need to up the contrast and or exposure a bit.

By the way, which program do you use to edit your images? Thanks for sharing,

Rafa.

Rafa, I found out the name of my spider. Did a search for "jumping spiders" and came up with this info:

Pelleninae

* Habronattu

Looks identical to mine.

If anyone wants to look up their own Jumping Spiders, this is a good place to start, and you might be able to do it by your own particular area of the world. :

So much for getting out and about today. The weather is cold and damp and it was drizzing awhile ago. Cold and damp I can deal with, but I'm not going far if it's going to rain.

I did go back in our lagoon area, and aside from a few ducks, this is all I could find to shoot. I was trying out my new nifty two fifty.

Another cold day in Tennessee, so I just stuck the camera out the back door and took this picture, and is one I've taken many times.

I can't find the comparison shot from a couple months ago. The idea would be to see if I'm improving as a photographer.

It seems (no proof) I'm improving because when I took the shot below, it was understood where the butter zone of this lens is. I also decreased the exposure bias -1 step, set the ISO to 100, and apature to f/8.0 (another butter zone). I didn't know these things 2 months ago, so the Image Quality should be better.

Cropped to approximately what the field of view would be for the 100mm
Lens 50mm
F-stop f/9
Exposure time 1/160 sec.
ISO-100
Exposure bias 0 step

2nd picture just looked blurry to me.

For some reason, I enjoy the angle on this one.

The detailing on the brick building, below the roof line, keeps messing up my eyes. At first glance I thought I'd somehow spectacularly failed at focusing the image.

I enjoy the light symmetry. What's light on one side is shadow on the other and vice versa.
