Walking down the road after watching The Green Hornet with the wife and we came across this beagle tied to a street sign with a very short chain.

I'm looking for harsh criticism of my photos - tell me how to improve, I will be grateful.

@awilson All of those have a lot of vignetting... which isn't all bad, just isn't natural for that lens...

@sean great color in that shot. Love it.

Sean- off topic, but how did you like the movie?

added a pic just so people don't throw rocks at me. (except Rafa, who hates me...haaaa :D )

I love the expression on her face, but the Ford logo bugs me a bit.

A cute shot of a cute girl and IMO the logo isn't that distracting. I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out.

Spent the afternoon and evening taking the kids to some parks. Naturally while they play I prowl around with my camera...
I don't know about you guys, but I take LOTS of lousy pictures, especially at times like this, where I am just enjoying myself and killing time shooting almost randomly.

I love the palm tree shot. Very nice gradient.

I'm like you and take a lot of bad shots, but it's the best way to see what you like and don't like. Taking many, many shots of the same thing is the only way to get that one perfect shot.

@Lost, this is the same girl as the other shot... Is she your girlfriend/wife? She is really photogenic, and, of course, really pretty! Those shots... I really hate you :). I'm waiting to hear on a 24-105 on the marketplace, but still undecided over the 17-55... its going to be one of the two. Thanks for sharing and making my decision more difficult!, but a better and more instructed decision! :)

@Al, are those with the 28-75? They look fantastic! I know what you mean about the lousy pictures... about 2 months ago we went to a lunch with my mother, brother and nephews, and I shot away... our hosts where, at one point, joking about me, then they were annoyed with my snapping away. Not one! NOT ONE!!! picture of that whole day is worth looking at twice, not to mention posting or sharing :( . Its like with my playing/singing: some days I'm just all flamed up and perform great, others I just can't get it right! :) But, I love those shots you posted, the palm trees standing out as really great!

Rafa.

It was a fun movie - nothing special, but fun brain candy

Ok, did everyone decide to buy the 17-55 today?

Amazon had 7 in stock this morning... out of stock. The relay was then passed to another house, 4 left at mid-afternoon now out of stock... then to Portable Guy, IN STOCK a few hours ago, only 1 left in stock as I write. What is this, a conspiracy??

Not happy :(
Rafa.

Lost, Rafa, that's comforting. I shot 240 pics yesterday and was amazed at how lame they were when I went through them. I hate that! I usually have about 5% that I think are pretty good. When you go below that, you start wondering if you have any ability at all. Probably a robot could roll around on treads and snap 1000 pics with a nice T2i lens combo and have 2% randomly come out interesting.
The palm tree shot...I like it too, but at 6:03 on a clear evening the robot could definitely have gotten that one! It seems to me that shots like this are attractive, but automatic if you are out at the right time:

:lol::lol:
Maybe that's destiny telling you to get a Tam 17-50 for $440, and keep the other $800 for something else:rolleyes:
Just teasing. I don't believe in destiny, and am glad you made up your mind on the 17-55. I was just reading some threads about it. It has lots of fanboys.

I know you are probably sick of hashing it all out, but if you want to torment yourself a bit more, I was just looking at this thread. Someone named "lightrules" has a pretty interesting critique partway down the page. https://photography-on-the.net …highlight=tamron+17-50+VC

BTW, just sold my Tamron 17-50 a couple of hours ago.

I am thinking of getting the Sigma 17-50mm now, I always heard it had a fast AF and I never use Af cuz it's so slow on our camera in general. That post by LightRules helped convince me the last little bit.

PS. congrats for passing 1k posts Mooka!

It is life telling you to get the 24-105 f/4L IS bw!

yes, same girl, but not my gf. I have a fiancee here in Bangkok, who by the way didn't kill me over those shots. amazing

Actually I'm a really lucky guy. I spotted two Thai photographers (amateur) shooting the girls and took some shots being careful to not get in the way. Long story short, I talked with one and he invited me to shoot with them. (ah, the power of L glass I'm sure..hahah) We shot for another 5 hours or so. Very fun and a great learning experience. People here are sooo friendly and sincere.

Rafa, you have the 70-200 f/4 L (IS, not sure) right? The guy I met was using it for portraits (with a 50D) and it was an exceptional lens. It is definitely on my list.
