Holy cow! You've got teenage kids!? Well, she is certainly a lovely young lady.
When new people post I tend to figure they are about 22. If it turns out they are married or have a BMW I add a few years...
Over in the 5D thread this really prolific (and heavily praised) poster who is generally shooting models, let out that he went to a shooting job and couldn't rent a car because he was only 20. I figured he was a seasoned professional. Another guy who posts some really impressive high-tech stuff did a portrait of his photography teacher. He's in high school.

davidc502 - yes, I can relate to this (forgetfulness..) - working lives take over and it's impossible to remember it all.. it just stuck with me as I recall when first joining in this forum, and you discussing my new-coming, an 'initiation' of sorts being from South Africa was to provide a dung beetle shot ;) anyway - Thanks for the comments !

Annie - thanks also :) We are quite lucky down here, yes, though, everywhere has it's ups and downs.. For example, I'd KILL to have some snow around once in a while, both for photography and for sports.. the closest thing we have (had) to snow was when I was still living in Cape Town, before they cut down an old European pine forest, we had created and become quite good at a sport called pine-boarding.. Effectively 'South African Snowboarding'. I have some great shots from those days, though sadly not with the 550.. Might post one just for interest sake anyway - it was LOADS of fun...

Next weekend I'll be going to a festival in the largest meteorite crash site on the planet, about an hour out of JHB - not sure if I'll take my gear yet though, there will be a lot of people around, and it's 3 days of solid partying so not sure I trust myself, or the thousands of other people that'll be there... WOULD be a great opportunity to get some good shots though.. hmmmm...

lostpacket and Mookalafalas - thanks again for the compliments :)

tymeframe - glad you like them! That lizard really was a great subject, and I have a ton more of him, which based on feedback, I think I must really spend some time on, working through the best shots and doing some minor tweaks in PP.. I really rushed the selection and simply resised all the posted shots here.. so am hoping to improve them even more with some LR3 / CS5..

Rafa - Last thank you in this post! :) Yes - those were both manual focuses - I was actually thinking to make a GIF out of them, as they look quite good when flipped from one to the next.. scrolling up and down doesn't have quite the same effect...
In any case - glad you like them - means a lot to get feedback, so thank you..

Below, some Warthogs! And a couple of excitable grass-hoppers - ha ha.. Again, real pity I didn't have my macro lens on hand when I saw these guys, but, better than nothing....

Well, the jungle, rain-forests and savannas exploded this day! Wonderful shots.

We have dirkkristen with the lizards, birds and bugs... nice set! I love the lizard shots... and I can certainly see the difficulty in focusing for those shots with the leaves on the foreground. Did you manual focus them as well as the birds pictures? Nice focusing, and great images! I like the antelopes and zebras as well.

We have Annie's marvel of image with the giraffe... and I am specially surprised as it is a SHARP image, with every heir on the giraffe showing even on the short neck's hair, yet it is almost a quarter of an image crop. Great image, great decision on cropping, perfect exposure. Lovely image!

We have the other side of the coin with technology in Simon's motorcycles and teleFragger's plugs.

We also have a few new commers! Welcome Mr.Kenmuir, Rexdog! Nice images from both of you.

Its great seeing this thread so active and with such diversity!

Rafa.

Thanks for the welcome, great shots from everyone, I will post more as soon as I get a chance.

made a poster of these half inch squares cut from comic book cards. All cuts were made the same way...so if a face or a hand or a gun was in the square it was by chance

Didn't quite come out as expected, but, the concept is there ;P

Poor quality and could most probably improve on the delay between frames.. anyhoo... Just for fun :)

mikestarr- did you make that? If so, great job  Nice shot too, I love the shallow dof and the deep color depth.

I have to say everyone has posted some great shots. I try to check everyday to see what is new. I am very new to taking photos without the green box. Started with an XTI then traded up to the T2i. The kindness of everyone on here makes me want to post some pictures. Hopefully, I will have time this weekend to do so. I am not strong in PP so i'm sure that will come with time.

I'm just trying to read as much as I can to truly understand the relationship between exposure, aperture.

Not sure but I hope the equipment that I currently have will allow me to (with time) take quality photos as has been shown on this thread so far.

I've been lurking so long I feel like I already know most of you.:)
