Using the search function on these forums will help answer your questions.
Assuming that the motorsports will be during daytime, it is a matter of where you will be shooting from. Trackside? Yes, you will love the 70-200 range for that. From the stands? Not so much.

Thanks for reply Zelseman, the motorsport i will be shooting will be mainly daytime car rallying,so will be at a safe/close distance to action,so 70-200 range should suit well.

Yes, the 70-200 f4 lens is an excellent motor sports lens; you just need some kind of stabilization, whether it be IS (mode 2) or a monopod to prevent vertical camera shake. Unlike regular sports photography where you shoot at high speeds to stop the action, thus rendering IS irrelevant; in motor sports when panning you shoot at much slower speeds to isolate the car or motorcycle with a motion blurred background.

Hope this helps and good luck with your purchase.

I have my 70-200 for two weeks now and I found using it inside with my 7d and the pop up flash from about 25ft away gave me outstanding shots. Outside pictures are stunning.
