When it first erupted there was some talk about it melting a glacier and causing flooding. Is that a possibility?

When something like this happens ppl always speculate the worst to prepare for it, but as time passes the danger of those kinds of things diminish. but there is little danger to this eruption.
The news interview that was on Fox news was hilarious because the woman interviewing the geologist was so dramatic that it sounded stupid, and you could see it on his face in the interview.
She tried to drag him into apocalyptic speculations but he did very well on keeping it on realistic notes. I give him a lot of credit for how he handled it :)

Thanks for sharing these..
It is hard to associate Volcanoes and Snow and Ice.. But there it is!
I was living on Hawai'i when the eruptions began again in 1976, they are really something to see

Thanks again for sharing these pics. I so wish I could be there. I'm at least 4300 miles away though :(

Oh! I was wondering when someone was going to post about this! Stunning images! I wish I could be there.

They said it might go on for a while, time to plan my next vacation! :)

Great images! A once in a lifetime for sure!

This one is also from Friday night.

These are from my first trip there. I came after dark because of my travel partners so ISO had to be driven way up, so they are a bit noisy.

And then the group I went with, I'm the one in the white hoodie sittin' on my 2L turbo diesel vitara :)

As long as I don't get too close to the main crater (100m ~ 300ft) I'm pretty much safe. :)

the fumes are mostly heavier than air so they collect in valleys beneath the eruption, but also have to remember to have the wind in your back, not only to protect yourself from the fumes but ash also.
A decent amount of ash over my 50d will make it nothing more than a disposable camera :)

Those are really cool.... love all the lava.

I was fortunate enough to see Kilauea erupt 16 months ago and like you, I was itching to get closer.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.
