Saw a gentleman at an event I was working yesterday who had a 28-300. I asked if I can snap a few shots with it,just to see how it does, he didn't mind at all (I would have been like helllll f*ck noooo). It seems very solid, got some weight to it,similar to my brick, actually more, but I'm used to the few lbs considering always having the grip and lens on. Shots were great at different ranges, clear, not as grainy as I expected,a few were very sharp. I think I took like fifteen more or less, with him next to me,while he held on to my gear, not enough, but didn't want to distract him from work. He said that was the only lens he brings to his no studio events. I've also talked to one photog. at a Golf Event last year using one as well, said this is his fav. lens, he doesn't part with it. After this, I've contemplated about renting this lens to see how I feel about it and how I pair up with it. The only reservation about this lens I would have is that it would fail to produce in low light.
Just curious how many of you guys ever used it and what's your take on it ? In your opinion and experience, Good lens ? Bad lens ? would you part with any of your gear to pick this one up ?
