For those that blog, do you use ads on your page to bring in additional income? This could be your personal blog, your photography blog or some other work related blog.

I have a blogger account, and thought why not. But the last time I looked, out of the 4 ads, 3 of them were for other photographers, thankfully none seemed to be in my general area. I think I will turn the ads off anwyase.

I was just wondering if there is another way to do ads besides those square columns on the side.

I once used a forum a number of years ago that had key words in the body of the forum that were tagged for ads. Say someone made a post about their new camera and lenses, the camera name probably became a link and took you to b&h and if you clicked on it, the forum owner would make a bit of change. I think this might be a better way to go about for ads, since I probably wont be listing the names of the local studios. : )

Anyone have any tips?

Right now im using blogger for my photography blog, but im not sure I like its layout. I started a new personal blog on wordpress a week ago just for fun, and I think I like it better, but im not sure. So far I dont see a way to put in regular ads on wordpress, but Ill keep looking. :)

There are plugins i believe for adsense ads etc. Personally I wouldn't add adverts until the blog has a bit of a following or you have info people really want to view ( of course that could be your photography is extremely good and that attracts the viewers ) I'm afraid that if I added ad's to my blog that I'd lose the few visitors I get as it is. :)

here are a few links from a quick Google for ad-sense plugins. I'm afraid I don't know about the keyword adverts at all.
Good luck.

I use my blog more as a "rolling portfolio" and therefore don't really want ads popping up on it. If I had a large following and was actually writing something interesting, I may consider it :)
BTW....my blog (and web pages) aren't working properly, if you could check the discussion link in my sig and take a moment to reply, I would sure appreciate it :)

i use adsense on mine. With the right layout they dont need to be to intrusive and ruin the look of anything.

Pays for the site and a little extra.

I don't. In my opinion it's not worth cluttering my (or any other) blog for that little money you get out of it. And on top of that, I really don't want adds advertising other photographers on my blog or even worse on our web.
