Is that it is far to advanced for the mug photographer.

Canon should have put a warning on the box, "Idiots should start with a POINT and SHOOT and hopefully return to photography when they have an understanding of the basics of it.

I use 2 1D MKIIIs, 2 IDsMKIIIs, 2 5D MKIIs, 1 ID MKIV, and 2 7Ds.

Value for money and quality for $ the 7D wins hands down BUT it requires that you have an IQ above 120 to use it well and it requires that you LEARN to use it well and it does not suffer fools gladly.

If you feel that you can't put the effort into learning to use this camera well DON'T BUY IT.

+2

I am still learning how to harness the full potential of my 7d. As long as one realizes that having a more advanced camera means a steeper learning curve, it is a great camera.

I agree... my daughter in law went from a point & shoot to an XSi which is not a 7d but when we go out to shoot together I spend so much time answering her questions it zaps the fun out of it... why do your pics look better than mine? why is mine to bright? why is mine to dark? why why why??? when we are not shooting she is not interested in learning or doing any exercises I tell her to do... she waits til we are shooting then wants to learn in 5 minutes... I told her to sell it or put it up and get the point & shoot back out she would just enjoy it better...

I know, right? I'm just sayin'...

People learn by asking questions and making mistakes, nobody here was born with a camera in hand and just because someone is starting out does not make them an idiot!!!!

You don't understand the "history" behind the OP's comments - there's a poster on here who has been **** about the 7D for ages, despite it being clear to everyone but him - because he was "experienced" and "knew better" than everyone else - that he was using entirely the wrong AF mode for the shooting he was doing.

Even when he finally changed things as he'd been asked to do many times - and started getting excellent results - we were still wrong and he was still right.

That's the kind of user Chris is talking about.

Totally agreed... but at the same time, people should be focusing on their skills and not blaming the camera for not doing what they expect it to do, when it's actually THEIR fault..

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

Actually, that's primarily so that you can hand the camera off to newbies, family members, non-photographers, and let them have a go with some chance of a usable end-result.

Many of the best cars in the world have automatic gearboxes and cruise control...

Preeeecisely.

If a given 'tog really has ruled themselves out as the cause of the problem (whatever that might be - and the fact is that most users don't definitively narrow down their problems to the camera rather than themselves) and there's still a real problem, then fair enough.

But when someone simply **** and **** and ignores excellent advice, while loudly proclaiming that he knows better than the folk trying to help him, well that's something else again...

congrats OP for your extensive list of bodies! ............... sheessh...

now up to the stupid part... I understand the message but was it really mandatory to tell people they're "stupid" only because they dislike how it works!?

I think this 7D love/hate is really going too far!

In general, if this is true, no one should buy a PC/MAC or a smart phone.

I asked a very similar question a couple of weeks ago:

https://photography-on-the.net …40677&highlight=7D+issues

The majority felt that the 7D is not all that different than any other Canon xxD release, which I disagree with - just look at the dozens of threads here about supposed "7D issues".
