Spent some time at a big RC meeting on the weekend. Lots of great planes.
The biggest problem I had was they faced the flying field INTO the sun. I have never been to an RC field ever where they purposly do that, I have no idea what they where thinking. It was on a full sized grass airport, and they stuffed everyone into one corner facing the sun. And as we were facing North, the sun was in front ALL day, it only moved from the right to the left

Anyway, it set me a challenge.......and got me hellish sunburnt! Most of my shots I had to try and shoot sideways to it, but of cousre, the side I was shooting was backlit. Anyway, here they are. As always, plenty more RC on my flickr.

There are more images in the crash sequence, but it's just more of the same.

Good shots!! Those RC planes are hard to tell from full sized planes.

Good idea. These are excellent shots!

Glad you like them guys. Yeah, some of these are very highly detailed. They are all big too, smallest size allowed was 70" span, it's the one thing that's hard to translate in the images. The twin engine cessna 310? is huge. The top of the fin is about chest height to give you an idea on size.

The guy who crashed the big yak was flying like a demon, really skilled stuff. He was doing a very low inverted high alpha pass and as soon as the tail touched it threw the nose down and there's not much coming back from that, esp on grass as it just grips and sucks it in.

Geez! Our biggest ones were about 36". I don't know why they don't go just a bit bigger & put a seat in them? ;)

That is almost ultralight size.

Close. Cessna 421B. Humped engine cowlings (propeller reduction gear) give it away. Tip tanks were done away with on the C model.

I had no idea there were RC models that so closely resembled the modern piston engine private aircraft such as the 206 and 421.
