Image posting frustrations!

OK-I give up! If any of you have visited the bird photo-sharing forum, you might have noticed my screw-ups. Either the image is avatar size or absent altogether. Plus the doz. or so that I have quit on totally. I'm using PS 8 and have tried the photobucket path, also without success. I would prefer to NOT go the p'bucket route & just be able to size my images correctly to post directly. I typically crop to some extent(which I understand resizes an image), do any PP and then go to image>resize image. I've read 1024 and 800 for the wide dimension(have tried both) and 72 on the resolution-but image size still is 500+ kb and max. size is 150. I am obviously missing something or doing something incorrectly. Can anyone help an old codger out? And if I could make 1 add'l. request-keep abbreviations to a min. It took me a week to figure out what POTN stood for! In advance, thank you VERY much-Rog

For my own I resize the longest side to 800 pixels. I ignore the DPI setting, as it has no relevance for posting images on the web.

Finally I use the save-as option as this allows you to selects the quality of the resulting jpeg, and dropping it down from the maximum allows me to select a quality that keeps the filesize below 200kb.

Once that's done, it's just a question of uploading to the web and then linking to it from within the thread in which you want to post the image.

If you are not happy with Photobucket, you could always upload them to your own gallery here on TalkPhotography.

Alright-that gives me something to look into. I was leaving the JPEG at max. Isn't size max @ 150kb-not 200 or is there a "fudge factor" here? Many thanks-Rog:

Thanks, Dennis. Was reading about that last nite(sorry about the game) and was wondering if that was a way to go. But got "dithered to death". If file size is set to 150 kb, does everything else fall into place and my image size will be like the others? Again, thank you-Rog

Thanks, had high hopes for this team, but still an excellent season.

I usually do my resize in CS3, then save for web for posting on forums. Selecting the 150kb size usually works for me. Hope this helps.

Not sure on size limit. I stick to 200kb as my images are hosted on my own website, and I only hotlink to them. Never had a problem with anyone saying my file sizes are too big or contravene posting rules.

Images hotlinked are not limited to file size, only the ones uploaded here.
