I have a 300D utilizing a canon 18-135 IS and the 18-55 non IS that it came with. My dad has the new T1i. I have been shooting for a few years with the 300D and have been very happy with the results, mostly ocean landscapes. I utilize Photoshop and Topaz Labs and usually print out 12x18 for my portfolios and 11x14's to sell. The other day, I took out my 300D and the T1i for comparison shots. I took a series of shots with both lenses on both bodies with same settings and same subject within seconds of each other. I put the images through the same Photoshop and Topaz Labs setting and filters. Printed all images out on the same printer. I could not tell the difference between the images shot with the 300D and the those shot with the T1i. Should there have been a difference, or would the major difference be when enlarging beyond 12x18? For grins I enlarged one of the images to 16x20 from the 300D with no degredation of quality whatsoever. I was contemplating upgrading to a newer body but now I am thinking I might just stick with my 300D and upgrade to a 70-200 F4 instead. What do you think.

sounds like a plan! near that price range would consider upgrading to used full-frame 5D1...

the main difference you will find will be in higher ISO situations. if those are not a concern to you, and they don't seem to be, stick with your 300d until you want to upgrade to something else.

I would use the "search option".

Thank you all...especially Gary. I tried difference search strings and didn't really find what I wanted. Next time you feel the need to educate people on the practice of using the search feature, save your time.

Easy fellas...

In general, you should upgrade when you find the limitations of your equipment. From your post, it seems that you haven't. I upgraded from my 300d a few years ago because it broke. If you can't tell the difference, why spend the money?
