I took a buch of Images yesterday with my 5D and 1D MK III. I had both set to Daylight white balance.
When looking at the imports in Lightroom 2.6
I notice the following
5D is @ 4950
MK III is @ 5050
and the actual Lightroom pre set for daylight is 5500

Any one have ideas why they are not all the same ??

Canon stores the digital "value" for White Balance in the Exif of the Raw data -- it is proprietary data, that is, it is not a "direct" value that other software can just read and apply. So, software like Lightroom reads digital data and gives a "best guess" which temp/hue will be set.

I don't know the "stuff" that goes into this but it is not surprise that different cameras would have some difference as to the digital values that are set. Fortunately, the three values you show are pretty close, but when shooting Raw it's good to be prepared to tweak the WB even if you are processing in DPP, which knows about the digital values.

Any preset is an approximation. What is "Daylight"? Is it daylight at 12 noon or 9:00 AM? In Stockholm or Manila? In the desert or in a rain forest? On top of Everest or at the Dead Sea? Christmas day or the Fourth of July?

The guy who designed the 5D firmware picked one number and the guy who did the 1DIII chose another. At Adobe they decided to go for warmer. If it matters, make a CWB or use the eyedropper on a neutral card.

Thanks guys.
It does not bother me I was just trying to understand if there was a reason for the diferrent values.
