Hi to all...I keep on reading here in POTN that some members will go on a few months vacation etc..

how do you do it? are you allowed to leave from your daily jobs for that long? how about your job responsibilities? who will take care of them when you are away for that long?

I am just curious, I would love to have a very long vacation but I can not imagine leaving my job/position for that long without affecting much of my current company's operation.

hope some of you will be kind enough to enlighten me :)

I earn 6 weeks a year. I also work three 12 hour shifts a week so I can turn 4 vacation days into 16 days off.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

I just retired after 33 years of teaching. No money, no students, no administration but lots of time. Summers I volunteer in Glacier NP for 2-3 months. Getting old has some benefits.

I've been self-employed since graduating college in 1984 so I guess I can honestly say I've never really had a job, ever... ;)

My husband and I have been self employed for 27 years, so long holidays are a luxury we only dream about (in our case 24 hours a day). Usually can only take off just a week at a time.
Retirement hopefully in the next 3-4 years - life will be one big fat holiday with lots of travel why we are still (hopefully) fit and young.:D:D

now at least in your neck of woods you can retire... if we are self employed, like me, we are pretty much tied up to our jobs until we die hehe unless we pass it on to our young ones or let others take care of our business...

I envy you guys who can take a very loooonnnggg vacation.. I often see them here also, some foreigners even have houses here for those yearly long vacation

I am a Chemistry professor. 170 day contract leaves a lot of free time to pursue travel and other things. :)

I'm also retired. Did so after 35 years in the grocery biz. I'm only 53 (retired at age 52) so I should have plenty of time to enjoy it. We already have four trips planned this year, including a two-weeker that includes a visit to Moab.

Another option is to make travel a priority versus slaving away at a job. It takes sacrifice, but it's entirely possible!

Or in today's economy, slave away so you can afford a nice vacation.

Face it, the people who post on these forums are fairly well to do. I don't know many people who can tunnel thousands into a hobby these days. It's probably been about a year since I bought anything for this hobby (excluding my computer which I built in June).

I vacation about four times a year. I made a promise to my family that we would do more things together when we moved. I don't have any financial burdens that keep me from working like a dog and working lots of overtime ( no mortgage, no car payments, etc.). I'm just looking forward to retirement myself. :)
