Hi guys

Been a while, but I have just had a weeks vacation, so was out shooting. Sunday 28th was the first Singapore airlines A380 in and out of Zurich, so joined the crowds on the terace to take a few pics.

Full gallery on my site HERE (external link)

All pics with 7D and 10-400mm. Cloudy overcast, windy and bloomin' cold.
Exif should be intact, but only some cropping and light tweaks to levels and unsharp mask to bring them out.

1. Just on rotation

2. Airborne. You can see the small photogs area where they drop you as part of the airport tour.

3. Air Berlin A320 off runway 28

4. Qatar A330 almost airbourne

5. United B767 away off runway 16

6. Helvetic Fokker F100 off runway 28. He's flying for us.

Hope you enjoy them

Chris

Looks like a very friendly photo-op airport. Is that a big viewing area in the Qatar Airways picture?

CVG has a observation place, too, but they always seem to take off in the opposite direction. Where's the fun in that?

It is very friendly. The peeps in that picture are on the outside of the airport fence, which was full everywhere you looked. I was on the viewing terrace on the E terminal, which is airfield center. So long as you are happy to go through full security checks, same as pax, then anyone can go out and watch the aircraft. In pic 2, the group there are taking part in the airport tour, which lasts about 75min, and they drive you all over the airport, plus drop you there for a few photo ops.
Zurich is very friendly to photographers. The trip to the terrace costs 2 francs, and the tour only 14.

Thanks

Frank, this is what you get when you vacation at home. Gotta find something to shoot :-)

Initially I thought #4 was landing, that would be a serious flare. Looks like he's a bit off centerline too. Nice shots.

Very good shots.

Can also see the slipstream off the portside engines. Wow...

I am envious of those who are that close to the runway.

Thanks guys.

It is nice to have a photo friendly airport. All you have to do is realise it's possible to make money from us poor photos, and the doors open :-)

You would be shot at Gatwick if they saw anyone that close to a plane.
No viewing areas there for about 6 years. Its a disgrace.
Even taking photos of planes preparing to land about 2 miles away from the airport, the police stop and find out who you are and what you are doing!

PS:- Great shots though :-)
