This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #271".

This ends at 11:00 am PST on April 1st. ... (April Fools Day !!!)

I'll give it a try:
Layer mask on saxaphone; replace background with dark blue; rotate; sharpen image; reflection.

Shucks, only 3 entries !!! I remember when B&A used to get quite a bit more (it always made selecting a winner a LOT of work!!).

Well, after studying the images, here's what I saw:

blsvlo - As soon as I saw your edit, I loved it. I never would have thought of using an old music score as a background. My own original edit is not nearly as creative, and now I think I'll go back and add a music score as the BG. Thanks for the idea!! Nicely done.

Lore - You always do fine work, and this is no exception. Your use of LR is top notch. The sheet music works very well in this case, and I like it slightly better than the blue sheet music. I would have gone a little easier with the USM, though, because shiny objects can feel harsh if oversharpened. Well done.

RedDragon - I think you cleaned up the saxaphone the best. Slightly cleaner than blsvlo, and not as edgy as Lore's. I also like the rotation and the under-stated reflection of the bottom of the sax. Your background is somewhat similar to mine (... I did a 3-part series of instruments all on a black BG: Saxaphone, Flute, Piccolo. Thats why I took this picture in the first place). Very nice.

After seeing the creativity of the first two, I find both blsvlo and Lore tied. I like them both for different technical and creative reasons. I think I'll give this one to blsvlo.

Nice job to all three !! OK, blsvlo, you're up !!!
