cool review...

one thing tho... that website seems to be quite partial to the canons... seems that the opinions on this forum are more open to sigmas and tamrons whereas if i stuck with just reading that website, i would have never purchased my Sigma 30...

well, i could be wrong... or is it that canons are that good?

Looking at the picture of the stack/pile of cars, seems to me there's considerable CA or fringing wide open at 70 and 100mm. Reviewer says it's practically non-existent. Am I seeing something else?

*waves hand* This is not the chromatic aberration you are looking for.

That looks more like purple fringing to me.

Apparently I've been dubbed Foxy.

yes, it is pretty biased. In fact, very biased toward the more expansive Canon lens, L series or not. I take his review as grain of salt.

I used to be a Nikon shooter and like Rockwell's website, Digital-Picture is obviously oriented towards one brand - Canon. I do like his reviews but also seek personal experiences from other users. His reviews read well too which is a big plus.

I still think the original 2.8L IS/non-IS are great so I'm unlikely to pay for the much more expensive Mark II.

Yes he's biased, but his experiences are also mine. The vII is a large improvement over the v1, which is an awesome lens as well. The fact that I'm getting "prime sharp" shots wide open with this lens is a testament to the improvements that Canon made on this workhorse lens.

I rented the mkI two weeks ago and found myself shooting at f/4. I rented this version this week and found myself extremely happy at f/2.8.

With that being said, this is my next lens..whenever that may be
