While, for the first time in a long time, it was bright , sunny and plus 15 in Calgary, we had a blizzard out at Lake Louise for my wedding yesterday!

Prior to the ceremony, it started to snow just a tad, and we all hoped for a little bit more after the ceremony for portraits, Mother Nature had her own idea of "a little bit more". Mind you when we were done the pictures, the snow stopped...sigh..The disappointing thing is because of the snow, and the fog and the storm, the spectacular views were not even visible for our two hours.

But, we went out there, and we got totally soaked! We all looked like we took a dip in the lake! After the bride took an hour break, and refreshed her self we were able to get a couple more just before the reception, as sun tried to bust through some clouds and you could see an actual mountain!

It was an adventure for sure! Take a peek at a couple of my favorites and let me know what you think. :) Any crit is always welcome ;)

Pre bridal: This is when we had tiny little sparse snowflakes....can't even see them!

Here we found a clearing under some trees!

This is what happened when we stepped out of the clearing! Cute though...

and then, the last shot was 15 minutes before the reception. On their way to be announced at the reception, I dragged them outside!

Really nice job not blowing the dress completely out in that lighting! :) Guess that's why you get paid...

I REALLY like the second, face to face shot of the B&G, as if just before a kiss...that one came out wonderfully!

how would you blow out a white dress in a white background? Looks like he metered for the dress and the background is blown out.

Usually it's the other way around. The BG is dark and the dress is white (black tuxes vs. white dress) so THEN you blow it out.

Not blowing out the dress and getting the nice BG glow would be easier given the circumstances. :p

Wedding dresses are reflective, so a white dress against a matte white background could indeed be blown out.

You should be really proud of these images given the circumstances. How cool to have a couple that was willing to go out in a blizzard, sacrificing everything for the images. Incredible!

I get that but so is skin to a certain degree. All except the last two are shot in shade (looks like it anyway).

The cloth of the dress (while reflective) isn't as near as luminous as the snow that's around it. It would, in my brain anyway, seem easier to not blow the dress out with that type of lighting. Especially with a fair skinned subject and the placement of that subject where they are in the photos.

I'm more impressed that I see details in the blacks (tux) though the whites a a little more hot than in the other pictures.

LOL Thank you everyone :)

In the last two, we are beside the lake, no shelter, no shade, just overcast. They were taken a couple hours apart. You notice on the first one all the fog and snow you can't really make out much of a background.

And you can see details in the blacks, cant you? I can on my monitor, maybe it is the size too? When I look at his jacket, i can see the collar, the separation between arm and body, as well as wrinkles when he bent his elbow.

They were sheltered and under trees in the middle two shots. I do have a few more I can post showing how much snow we had, and just how wet my poor bride was... we looked like wet dogs! LOL

I like them. My favorite is with the snow in her hair, but last one with the mountanous background is just breathtaking. The snow ones are fun and you didn't get a snowflake covering an eye or anything. I also like the first, full-length dress shot -- beautiful (even moreso than the background.) :)
