Hey everyone!

The FIA is approaching, April 10-11 and I was just had some gear concerns.. I have an Xsi and a 70-210 f/3.5-4.5 with a 2x tc. Will this be sufficient to get some descent shots? When I went a few years ago, I only had my Digital Elph SD3200... I gotta hope they'll be better than those shots  Any tips? Anyone else going?

Depends on light and location. Sometimes, 200-210mm is long enough, as shown in these two images.

But more often, 300mm is the shortest focal length you'll want to consider for aerial displays, as shown in these two images.

It's not unusual to see photographers at airshows with tripod-mounted 500mm and 600mm lenses.

I've seen people shoot with hand-held 500mm lenses at airshows...

So i'm guessing a range of 70-210 and 140-420 w/ 2x tc will be sufficient? :) I am eagerly awaiting the show!

I went to FIAS two years ago was going to go this year but will be going to KeyWest Air Show same weekend I got some great shots with 70-300 you can get fairly close to runway area if you get there early and up on rope. You should be ok. Good luck and have fun!!!!

Did you go/ I was kinda disappointing this year. Actually, very disappointed. It seems that Sun n' Fun has stolen all the acts this year. There were no military jets there this year. They had a privately owned Harrier and Warthog. No F18, F16, F22, F4...... no military aircraft at all.

What did you all think?
