hi guys. i have tried to play with my 580EX II and set my 7D to the wireless function that the flash gun will only work. however after several attempts, i have noticed that the built-in flash still fires when i took the shots. is there any problem with my camera or just the settings? i followed the settings in the manual. thanks in advance.

the built in flash will still fire because the signal emitted by the camera is (iirc) sent along as the flash fires. you cannot wirelessly trigger other Canon flashes without the built in flash firing.

oh and btw, wrong section ;)

If for some reason you don't want the 7D's flash light in the scene (don't want a highlight reflection) then you can set your shutter speed above the normal X-sync speed and use High Speed Sync. This causes the master (your 7D in this case) to send the Fire flash signal before the shutter opens.

But under normal conditions the master fire flash command doesn't add a lot to the exposure.
