Another UV filter thread

...I tried to learn, in more detail, what is the difference between:

Hoya 72 mm HMC UV-0 (first place overall)

and

Hoya 72 mm Pro1 Digital MC UV-0 (2nd overall, 3rd for value)

So far all I can find is that the latter is supposedly more durable to outdoor conditions and degradation due to the elements. If that's true, it seems odd to brand it with "digital", but the test couldn't confirm any edge with a digital camera over the first filter.

Anybody know more than that?

Well, here's what Hoya says the differences are.

Yeah I know, I was mostly referring to the comparison study since it concluded otherwise.

Well several of the things Hoya identifies as distinguishing (knurled frame, slim frame design, and (big deal) UV-protected case) aren't exactly things that get covered in filter tests.

it's perfect for those days when you're out in the sun and have your UV filter & case hanging around your neck.

Thanks for the feedback. I ordered a Kenko UV Pro1 Digital filter. They are identical to the Hoya, made in the same factory by parent company Tokina, but cost $20 less.
