Ever since I originally installed the first version of Snow Leopard, I have been dealing with my prints being too dark (not matching my display) in both Photoshop and Aperture. Recalibrating my display and creating my own custom print profiles did not fix the issue. I've had to manually correct for the prints being too dark but adjusting the gamma or brightness of the images in the print dialog. As an example, under Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and Aperture 3, I had to set the brightness to 1.15 or so (neutral is 1.00 so about a 15% increase in brightness) in order to get prints that matched my display.

NO MORE! With Apple's release of Snow Leopard 10.6.3 (yesterday) they have (for the most part) corrected this issue!! At least, in Aperture that is the case (I haven't tried Photoshop yet). Using the default settings, my prints are a really close match. No more dark prints!

Now, being a perfectionist, I have fiddled around with some slight changes in the brightness (in the print dialog) and I've come to the conclusion that a very minor boost in brightness is still warranted. A brightness setting of 1.03 (3% increase in brightness) is just a little bit closer to perfect.

But that is picking nits. I think most folks couldn't tell the difference between a print done at the default (no adjustments in the print dialog) and one done with a 3% boost in brightness.

Snow Leopard has been notorious for causing a "My damn prints are too dark" issue since its release. It is wonderful to finally see this addressed! Hopefully, 10.6.3 fixes the issue in other apps too (such as Photoshop).

Thanks for the news; I've been putting off updating since the list of open issues has been so long.

I just got done installing 10.6.3, so far no issues. The Apple forums are FLOODED with people having issues with it. Hopefully I don't run into any problems. I did notice a brightness change, it seems less bright but colors are still accurate.

A week or so ago Apple released updated printer drivers for my Canon printers. Have not used the printer since installing the new driver, but perhaps this is a fix?
