Hello,

I tried to search, but kept finding internal readers and firewire (only have USB 2.0)

I am using a 5d Mark II with Sandisk 60mb/sec Extreme CF card

Can someone recommend a fast card reader i can use?

Fastest USB reader I've tried is the Lexar UDMA. If you're using a laptop with an ExpressCard slot then the Lexar reader is lightning fast (rated to over 100 MB/s).

This rating is useless since usb 2.0 can only do 30 mb/s... Firewire 800 readers can do 100 mb/s too...

Er, did you read those words what I wrote? I said ExpressCard, not USB.

Which might be slightly relevant; if the OP hadn't already said that he hasn't got Firewire.

Oh, and I don't think a transfer rate of 100 millibits per second is very fast at all. ;)

Oops. I wanted to quote honorarytitle not you, but you know what I meant... usb 2.0 and FAST transfer rates are impossible nowadays. For making proper use the FAST transfer rate of modern cf cards, you need something else than usb 2.0 :)

Quite a few expresscard to cf adapters are iffy with big cf cards for some reason ? why, I use a FW reader but as that isn't an option, how about an express card to fw adapter? (if you have an expresscard socket that is!...if not...guess you are stuck with usb2

And a lot of them are just expresscard - usb adapters, so offer no speed advantage. But the Lexar is remarkably quick with my 60 MB/s 32 GB card. Transfers of 75 MB/s!!

Frank, have you a model number or link for your reader also, is it a 54 or 34 size adapter?

Cheers

John

This is not available yet. Have you actually used one or are you just reading specs?

Agreed... The LEXAR with firewire is the best solution... I download regularly 32 gig (sandisk extreme) cards in just minutes.

Unless all you have is a USB please spend the money and make the best of your equipment. Here's a link to the reader I have: http://www.lexar.com/readers/pro_udma_reader.html (external link) Just imagine dumping all your images in minutes rather than 20+ with the usb. PS, you can purchase a Firewire port card for your comp here: http://www.firewire-1394.com …-usb-2-pci-card-uf400.htm (external link) Or anywhere with the keyword "firewire port card"
