I just ordered this,
The DV Rebel's Guide

Don't know how much basic help it will give. So far, what I've learned. Film at shutter speeds of 1/50 for 29fps at 1080p. Don't use auto iso. Turn off your IS or you will hear it in the mic. Focusing is done with manual control. Style should be set to neutral for ease of processing in post. Make sure you white balance,(coffee filter/ grey card). You will see people using zeiss lenses more in film because of better color rendition and edge to edge sharpness. Read through this website till your eyes bleed:

should be 1/60 for 30fps if you shooting NTSC, 1/50 for 24fps. PAL is another world, so I guess that 1/50 for 29fps will work. Turning off the IS is true if you are using on-board sound... but if you are going for quality production don't use on board sound. Focusing is always done manually, distance should be marked before each shot.

White balancing is key, using a white piece of paper is a lot easier. Zeiss is great, but now a days you can always color correct in post. A good set of canon primes rival some amazing film lenses that I have worked on.

thank you both.. . lots to learn

im still trying to get my head around shooting the same scene from different angles

do you just stop , reposition the camera and get the actor to repeat what they just did ?

and if so, which audio do you use?

for just basic of all basics filmmaking (camera non-specific, digital/film non-specific), can't beat this book! http://www.amazon.com …ourse-Video/dp/0960371818 (external link)
It looks laughable but it's the first "film" book I was made to purchase :)

And yes, the actor should repeat and "match" their previous takes as much as possible. In terms of audio, you can mix from the shots, you can lip sync to one, whatever seems to work when you cut it together... but don't forget about the wild track = the ambient room tone recording.
