I expect that the light conditions will not be optimal and I won't be able to use a flash. Which lens would you recommend based on the subject and the lighting conditions (shooting with 5D Mark II)

If its people eating in a dark restaurant and your supposed to get shots of them dining and cant use a flash well....then...you might be in a bind. Do you have any lenses with a 0.0 aperture?

I think the 0.0 aperture comment is a little over the top. I've been able to shoot low light wedding receptions and DJ shows in clubs with minimal lighting with my 5dmk2 and a rented 85 1.2. flickr
