OK Guys n Gals, This is my very FIRST attempt at macro photography so dont laugh too hard. ;)
I bought a 50mm Pentax "Macro Takumar" off of ebay in M-42 (Pentax Screw) mount, along with an M-42 to EOS adapter. This is the first try, and I hope to improve.
Settings for this were F/4 (set on the lens) and 1/80th shutter speed with natural light at around 4:15 PM this evening. This is full frame with no cropping shot with a 10D. The quarter was laid on white bright concrete, and camera was hand held.
OK, RIP it apart!

you really should have used a dime, it would have fit on the screen, lol. It is an excellent first shot. reminds me that i only had about that much left, after going to local camera shop this weekend. Very crisp and clear.

Congrats on the manual focus job.

Why does it look rusty? Is it steel money?
Interesting for me, probably too everyday for most locals.

Thanks Carzee, The newer quarters in the US made after 64 are copper clad with a silver coating, and when they wear, the copper tends to show through, and the newer ones seem to be getting thinner all the time.

The background is sort of noisy for a coin, and the coin is well circulated. You should try a black background and new coin, it will have a much better result. I can't personally take that close of a shot of a coin but I have taken my fair share of coin pictures, I used to sell coins & banknotes on eBay by the thousands. You've done great on your first attempt but its kind of noisy. Although I can't wait to see your next attempt! It will no doubt be much much better.

I know very little about macro or coins, but I think I've seen them placed on black velvet or felt when being photographed. I'm sure you'll be a master macro in no time at all.
