Are there any real appreciable differences between the Tamron 17-50 2.8 XR Di II (non-VC) and the Sigma 18-50 2.8 Ex DC Macro, in terms of IQ, focus, low-light performance etc., or is it six of one, half a dozen of the other?

Thanks.

well, there are numerous threads discussing, comparing these two lenses. I myself contributed to at least 3 of them (I owned both at the same time a year ago).

IIRC, photozone.de may have tested both. The Tamron is very popular and has great optics. I really can't see Sigma being much better. BTW, I think Sigma also announced a 17-50mm f2.8 as well at the PMA 2010 show IIRC.

I'd love to have the links to them.
Thanks.

On this forum, the Tamron often seems to receive praise.
